| - Mmm Mmm Mmm
OK- so this quarter is going to be hectic...
First weekend of the quarter has passed by, and I had over 20 hours of homework already!!! I can only assume that classes will get busier and in addition, I'm working on footage for the freelance job I took, as well as a huge senior project production. Busy busy busy.
Anyway- Things are working out ok here. The weather has finally decided it is spring- it was in the mid 80s yesterday. So its nice here. Or rather, hot.
Riding is going well. I had regionals on March 25th, and I never thought I'd be so happy not to place (last year I made Zones). Its kind of a relief not to have to show any more this season, with how busy this quarter will be. I'm still praying I'll make the team next year! They are talking about having a pre-season, so everyone that was on the team this year can come back a few weeks early and practice before try-outs. Sounds great to me! Lessons are still going great- I love being out there with the horses and its a great break from classes.
Not much else to add. Oh yes, here is what I'm taking this quarter: Astronomy, C++ Programming, and Digital Lighting and Rendering. Not the easiest of classes, but it shouldn't be TOO bad, right? ugh.... I'm having a bit of back pain here that keeps getting worse- probably just muscle spasms I guess, but it hurts the most when I'm sitting, which works just great because I spend most of my time sitting in front of a computer! Oh well.
Anyhow- Must get going to get some more work done before class. Email or comment me! Ciao people!

| So here I am on Spring Break- and its almost over. Time to start another quarter.... more work.... neverending.... ughhhhhhhhhhh
Anyway, Spring Break went pretty well. Ian and I headed down to Melbourne to visit Mimi, we had a great time seeing her and Julie. Ian and I went to Cocoa Beach, spent an evening at Downtown Disney, went to Epcot for a day, and went to the planetarium with Mimi and Julie. We headed back on Sunday morning, with a stop to see Ian's uncle in Port Orange, who took us out on his little boat for 3 hours! I managed not to get sunburned until that day. I actually got to be in the ocean in 3 foot waves (I know- measly) and had a blast! Now we're back in Savannah so I can get some riding practice in before the Regional Competition this Saturday. (I hope I can qualify for zones at this competition for the simple reason that if I do well I have a better chance at making the team next year).
An exciting thing happened- I've had my resume up on the SCAD Job website for almost a month now- and its paid off! I was contacted by a director of a small film (about a killer chicken) who needs some visual effects work (freelance, so I'll do it here along with my classwork). Its credited, and I get a spot in the commentary. I haven't decided if I'll do it or not yet- I want to be REALLY sure that I can accomplish what he needs before I sign a contract. But it sounds so awesome, and he seems like a great easy going guy to work for, so I hope this works out! I'll keep y'all posted.
Anyway, not much else to post. Oh yeah, I'm 21 now. Woohoo. Ian and I had a really good bottle of Zinfandel on my birthday, thats about it. I did actually order my very first drink at Planet Hollywood in Downtown Disney and guess what-- I WASN'T EVEN CARDED! Now what is the fun in that? I look like I'm 13- I wanted to surprise someone with a real ID! Sheesh- it figures, right?
Anyway- keep me in your thoughts. With this freelance offer, I have alot to decide within the next few days. And wish me luck for Saturday- I hope that getting to zones is in the cards for me. Stay well everyone and shoot me an email or a phone call. Until next time, adieu!

| So this week has been busy (but not like a week or two ago!). Time is going by faster and faster, which is good (I can't wait for spring break!). The weather here has been so strange; it was in the low 40s on Tuesday, around 60 yesterday, and in the 70s today! (And will probably be back down to 30 tomorrow)! My classes are going much better, and my work flow seems to be a bit more steady, but I swear, all assignments and tests for all 3 of my classes are always due in the same week!
I am currently working on texturing a head (my head) for my digital materials and textures class. Its kind of weird, actually. I modeled the head (I've never done anything that complicated- thank god for the tutorial!). I have the fur done for my eyebrows, and I recently finished my hair (well, except for a little bit of tweaking). I've spent over 15 hours on hair alone! Over 2 hours on fur... about 20 hours modeling, and will probably spend at least another 10 texturing. I even have the UVs mapped (the things that allow you to put a texture on an object without it buckling or pinching). I have a pretty good start on the bump map on the skin (bump maps create a texture, like pockets on skin) and I still have to paint my colors in Photoshop. I think I'll have a pretty good result this time, at least I'm hoping to! At least I have until next Thursday.
My Concept Development class is going well. I am working on an animatic which is due next Tuesday. I'm over 2/3 of the way done. I'm actually enjoying what I'm doing for these classes, its not just mindless droning at the computer. However, I spend so much time at the computer that I think I'm starting to glow!
My 19th century art history class is going... well...ok. I found out the other day that it is known as the hardest art history class offered (and I just had to take it!) I studied for 3 days for my first exam and ended up with a high C (I didn't study the right material, the stupid terms list got me!) I took weeks writing a 6 page research paper and got a 79 on it (although the average grade in the class was a 74. She grades tough.) However, I got a 95 on my group presentation, which brought my grade up to an 84. I'm already studying for the next test which is Tuesday, hopefully I'll do much better this time!!!!
Riding is going really well. I've started doing jumping crossrails now, which is more at my level than the verticals I was doing last year! Ashley is an amazing coach- she is really patient, yet tough and demanding, but complimentary as well. She gives me 100 things to fix in a lesson, but at the end she always tells me what I did right, the sign of a good coach! I have good days and bad days of course, but I'm always happy when I'm out at the barn. I seem to get along better with animals than most people. I even have 'Mint Monday' for the horses- each Monday that I ride, I go through the barn and give every horse a mint (except the horse I rode that day- it gets 2!) Best part of the day really- making a 1000 lb animal beg you for a treat, then lick your hand until all the peppermint flavoring comes off. It makes them so happy, just a simple little thing. Those poor horses need more attention. (Although they're spoiled rotten in many ways!)
I had better get going. This was my break from homework, and I had better get back to it. I'm looking forward to spring break; 12 days of relaxing! Ian and I are going down to Florida for 5 or 6 days to visit Mimi- I'm really excited to see her (I only see her once, maybe twice a year!) Well, shoot me an email or reply to me on the site, love to hear what everyone is up to! Much love! (and I'll post some pictures of my work once it's finished!

| Ok, so let me just say... Operating for 3 days on only 6 hours of sleep is difficult. I just finished my work (hooray- but only the stuff for today- boo). Its almost 6am here, too late to go to sleep since I have a 7am workout with the team, and a 9am lesson. AAAHHHH! I'm going nuts! I'm operating off No-Doz (a last resort) and am trying not to overeat, as eating makes you sleepy. Gah, I hope I stay awake in class.
The most horrible part of all this: I have to do another all-nighter tonite!!!! We'll see if I last. The last time I had an all nighter I was typing a paper, and the next morning all I saw on the page was "bvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv nxv.vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxb" (from falling asleep and letting my head rest on the keyboard). After 63 pages of it, I'm reluctant to fall asleep doing any work at all. Of course, the day after you get some sleep and you look at your project again, all that runs (through my mind at least) is "what the hell did I do that for? That doesn't go there.... Why did I delete my backup file, and where did I place my images? Was it the desktop, or program files.... what drive are they on? Hell, what computer was I working on the other day?"
Ok, just to give ya an idea of what my week has been like, let me sum it up for you: Monday: *preliminary storyboards due Tuesday: *Art History Exam Wednesday: *Final thumbnails due as well as a student website Thursday: *UV-Texture Project due (and I still don't know what the hell I'm doing!) *Art History Group Presentation- 30 minutes (My topic is 'the social and economic influence on the turn to the modern art period in 19th century France) Tuesday: *Term Paper due in Art History
Well, if you figure in class time, riding time, and homework time, it doesn't allow for much eating or sleeping. yes yes, I'm whining. Because I can. Why am I writing this now? Because I need a break after 10 straight hours of work! I wonder if computers can give me a tan? I guess not- if so I think my skin would be bronze by now, instead I'm a freckly, sickly white...
Oh yes, and to make this week all better, I am sick... AGAIN. Back to the idiot doctors here for more antibiotics (which I totally have time for, right? pfft). I spent $35 today on over the counter medicine just so I could wait until I have time to go see the doctor! Its insane- when will it end? (answer is 2007).
Well, I'm heading off. Time to get dressed and head off to team workout (just what I need). Maybe I'll have sometime to write within the next week or so- but don't count on it. And would someone send me an email? All I have is junkmail- at least the solicitors love me.... XOXO

| Ok, wow, its been a LONG time since I've updated.... But I'm still alive! (and I've got to start doing this more!) Things in Savannah are going well, I'm well into my junior year in college (and I can't wait to get out!)
My classes are great. Both my visual effects classes (Digital Materials and Concept Development) are with the same professor; a guy who graduated from SCAD in 1994 then worked in the industry for 11 years! He's a great professor too, its his first time teaching and you'd never guess. He communicates his knowledge without making you feel stupid. Its terrific. I also am taking 19th Century Art with the same professor I had for Survey II (yes, she's that good!). Overall, I'm very happy with all my classes, but a bit stressed with the work load.
Riding is still going well. Last spring, I pointed into Beginning Walk/Trot/Canter. I worked for Gretchen at the barn this summer giving some lessons and taking care of horses (and I learned a TON)! I didn't get in much riding, but it was worth it by how much I learned. I also fell in love with an adorable horse named Jack. He's still for sale, maybe I'll be able to buy him one day. I'm on the Equestrian team here at SCAD again, my third year. I have already won 4 first places and 1 third. Which means, I pointed into Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter, then pointed into Novice! (the lowest jumping category, but hopefully I won't be jumping, I still feel like a beginner!) There are a ton of more experienced riders on the team that are in my category, which means I won't go to as many shows (which I'm fine with, I need my weekends!) I'm already going to regionals anyway.
Ian and I are still together and doing great! We had our 1 year anniversary (from when we started dating) a few weeks ago. He graduates this spring, but plans to stay in Savannah for another year, unless something else comes along. We're looking at apartments for next year already. We have a gorgeous prospect, I really hope it works out!
Well, time for me to get going. I promise to update this thing a bit more! I have a class in 30 minutes (with a big project due, I hope mine lives through the critique!) Anyway, Be sure to shoot me an email, I miss hearing from people! Until next time! xoxo
